Mom’s special chocolate sauce

IMG_0108

As long as I can remember my mom has made this special sauce. When I was a child I would see her stirring it on the stove and then using it on ice cream. I never thought much about this sauce until she made it for the kids when she and dad made their annual trip to Saudi. Now that we live nearby she knows if we are coming to visit she most likely will need to have the ingredients on hand!  She has been making it for around 50 years!

Ingredients

1 cup corn syrup

2 ounces of unsweetened baking chocolate–She uses a bar of this baking chocolate found in most grocery stores-Baker’s unsweetened in a small box.  This is basically half of that bar.

2 Tbs. butter

1 tsp. vanilla

 Directions

Cut the chocolate into pieces so it can melt easier.

let it come to a boil, turn heat down so it does not boil over, be careful!

Continue stirring on low boil for 2 minutes.

Do not over cook or it will become too thick and sticky!

Turn off heat.  Add vanilla and mix well. Stir here and there for the next 20 minutes.

The consistency will thicken. If you cook it longer it will be a stickier, thicker sauce.

My mom uses this for ice cream! Thanks MOM!
